Winston Camp, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2000 in Bon Secours Retirement Community, Chester, Va. Mrs. Camp and her husband , Winston were active, loved and respected members of the Ivor community for many years. She was born February 28, 1909 in Franklin, Va., one of the nine children of Uriah and Nannie Cotton Rawls. She had retired in 1974 as a Virginia public school teacher after 40 years of service in the Ivor school system often teaching as many as four generations of the same family during her career. She was an active member of the Ivor Baptist Church serving in many capacities, including head of the primary department, teacher of the Young People's Sunday School Class, the Young Adult Class an the Ladies Class for many years. She was a member of the General Mahone Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member and chaplain of the Virginia Society of Dames and its Court of Honor, and The Society of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was a proud of her membership in the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter NSDAR, having served as historian and DAR Good Citizenship Chairman and chairman of the Bicentennial of the Constitution of the United States of America for DAR. She served as vice president of the Southhampton Educational Association, was active in the Ivor PTA and the Ivor Woman's Club, serving as president of both organizations and was a volunteer in numerous activities of the town, organizing plays and programs to help support the Ivor Fire Dept. and Ivor Rescue Squad. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Temple and Kenneth Temple of Chester, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, J.W. Camp Jr. and Donna Camp of Grapevine, Texas; two sisters, Odell R. Scarborough of Miami, Fla. and Nellie Jones of Edenton, N.C.; one brother, Uriah Rawls Jr. of Orange, Texas; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Temple Doggett of Richmond, Karen Camp of Atlanta, Ga., Sharon Camp Swink of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ann Camp Rouse of Williamsburg, and James Wilkinson Holland Camp of Seaford; one stepgrandchild, Melanie Place of Euless, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, Zachary, Megan and Stephanie Doggett; Brady Rawls Rouse, Brooks Rouse and Winston Watkins; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Mackenzie Place. A funeral service will be held in Ivor Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Ivor Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Ivor Baptist Church.
